How to Choose Between Concrete and Asphalt

A driveway is an import aspect to your home, aesthetically and functionally. Roughly 90% of driveways in the U.S. Are either concrete or asphalt. Some families choose options such as gravel, cobblestone, crushed stone,or patterned pavers. For popularity reasons we will be comparing concrete and asphalt.

Pros: This is a long lasting material that should last from 15 years all the way up to 50 years. This of course with proper care, drainage, and sealing. It is smooth which makes for snow removal and use.

Cons: This product can crack and without proper care the damage can be great.  Cracks are almost completely inevitable and places where it is repaired can be very visible.

Pros: It defends against cracks, because it adjusts with the movement of the earth. This product is easy to shape and can last 15 to 20 years when taken care of. Asphalt requires topcoats which can easily be applied on top of the driveway.

Cons: It can be difficult to get entirely straight and clean edges. Determination is a concern if it is not properly up kept and drained. Plants of various kinds can break through.
