This week on the blog, Vancouver Custom Home Builder Tuscany Homes will be discussing home design trends for the different generations.
Today, we’ll be discussing the Baby Boomer Generation. These buyers are born between 1946 and 1964. Raised in an era of extreme optimism, opportunity and progress, most Boomers grew up in two-parent households, with safe schools, and job security.
Boomers respond best to tradition, be it religious, familial, cultural, musical, or societal.
Number 1 on the Boomers list of must-haves is a state-of-the-art kitchen. Others on the list include large walk-in closets, whirlpool tubs, fireplaces and hobby shops.
Whether or not they want to admit it, boomers do need to take decreasing mobility and increasing functional issues. Single story homes will be most popular with this generation.
Even with the need for easily accessible homes, Boomers still like for their homes to be stylish and elegant. Wide entry halls
provide accessibility and grace. Handrails will be a must, but use of high end materials will be required.
In the kitchen, anything that will make it easier to find and retrieve items will be appealing to Baby Boomers. Consider installing roll-out trays, swing-outs, Lazy Susans and other “pull-forward” cabinet accessories.
