Your dream home has just been built by a home builder in Vancouver WA. Now, what do you do?
Yes, you move in, but that goes without saying. There are some other things you should do besides unpack your dishes and hang a few pictures.
In part one of this series we talked about taking time off, changing your locks, and notifying the post office. In part two, we look at getting organized.
Call Your Service Providers. You should plan on calling your electricity, natural gas, internet, and cable providers. If you moved a short distance, chances are good that your call will go quickly. If you’ve moved a considerable distance, you may have to schedule a time for them to visit.
If you’re positive about when your custom house will be finished, you can call your service providers a few days before you get the keys. That way they can visit your new custom home as soon as possible.
Learn Where Your Shut-Offs Are Located. There are no more superintendents to call. If something goes wrong, you are the one that has to take care of it.
In an emergency, the first thing you’ll need to do is turn off whatever is spewing into your home. So, know both the shut-offs for small stuff, like your toilets, as well as the big stuff, like the main valves for natural gas and water.
Get A Safe or Filing Cabinet. You’re a home owner in Vancouver WA. You’re in the big time now. So, get a safe or filling cabinet for all of your important papers and the important papers yet to come. You’re going to need to keep them handy, especially come tax time.
