Your builder has just given you the keys to your custom home in Vancouver WA. You are probably excited to move in, but are you excited to start landscaping?
This is the final installment of our three-part series on landscaping mistakes. In this article, we’re going to look at some general mistakes homeowners make when it comes to their lawn and garden.
Using too many lawn ornaments. One gnome is cute and whimsical. An army of gnomes is probably overkill.
Forgetting about lawn waste. When you mow, prune, plant, or weed you produce yard waste. Make sure you have a place to put it or a way to get rid of it.
Ignoring wildlife. You don’t want your expensive new plants to be dinner for the local critters. Do some research to ensure that your landscaping doesn’t become fodder for the local fauna.
Think long term. Remember that plants grow. What is a perfect size this season may overtake your backyard next year. Know how big your plants will be when they’re fully mature.
Not realizing your yard needs maintenance. Lawns need to be mowed and gardens need to be weeded. You’ll either have to do it yourself or pay someone to do it. Be prepared to spend the time or the money.
