Tips for Hanging Christmas Lights – Part 3

Tuscany Homes, a prominent home builder in Vancouver WA, continues a three-part series on how to hang Christmas lights.

Christmas Lights 03If this is your first holiday in your new custom home, we want it to be special. What better way to make it special then to hang Christmas lights?

To make the process as easy as possible, consider the following…

Plug your Christmas lights into a proper outlet. Your Christmas lights should be plugged into a ground fault circuit interrupter outlet. These types of outlets will shut down if there’s an over-current.

Use outdoor extension cords. You want to use extension cords that are made for the outdoors. Also, use extension cords that are the right length. Using extension cords that are too long, and then bundling them, may create a tripping hazard. Speaking of tripping hazards, tape down extensions cords that traverse walkways or put the cords under a rug.

Use the right Christmas lights. Just as you want your extension cords to be made for the outdoors, you want your Christmas lights to be hardy as well. This means you’ll want Christmas lights that are waterproof or water-resistant. Consider buying lights with inner fuses. These fuses will help prevent excess current on the strand.
