Clark County: The Secret Jewel on The Columbia River

Tuscany Homes is a prominent home builder operating in Battle Ground WA and several other communities in Clark County. As you’ll soon learn, Clark County is the secret jewel on The Columbia River.

Clark County is in Southwest Washington and has a population just over 450,000. The mighty Columbia River is the county’s southern border. Across the river to the south, is Portland, Oregon.

Clark County residents can enjoy the many benefits of the Portland Metropolitan Area without having to live in Oregon. Oregon has high income taxes and a poor infrastructure.

Living in Clark County puts you about two hours from the mountains and two hours from the beautiful Pacific coast. Seattle, Washington is about three hours away.

Portland International Airport is located on the other side of the Columbia River. It’s easier for Clark County residents to reach PDX then most Portlanders.

The county’s main attractions include Vancouver Lake, Lacamas Lake, Moulton Falls, Larch Mountain, and the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge.

Vancouver is the county’s largest city. Other cities in Clark County are Battle Ground, Camas, La Center, Ridgefield, Washougal, and Woodland. They all are welcoming communities with great schools, plenty of trees, and homey small town atmospheres.

12 Ideas for Spare Bedrooms – Part 3

Tuscany Homes, one of the most capable custom home builders in Vancouver WA, concludes its list of 12 ideas for spare bedrooms. In this entry, we list four ideas that are very fun and way outside the box.

pet roomTurn it into a nerd haven. Haven’t you always wanted a room for your superhero figurines, comic books, or Star Wars memorabilia? How about a place to play Dungeons and Dragons, Magic: The Gathering, or Settlers of Catan? Think of it this way, a nerd haven keeps all your nerd stuff out of the rest of your home.

Turn it into a pet room. Imagine a room in your custom home where your pets can frolic and you don’t have to worry about them making a mess. Contemplate a small door so they can enter and exit whenever they want.

Turn it into a gift-wrapping room. What’s the worst part of wrapping gifts? It’s getting out the paper, bows, and clearing off the kitchen table. You won’t have that problem if you have an entire room dedicated to wrapping gifts.

Dedicate the room to your favorite hobby or collection. How cool would it be if you had a room dedicated to your favorite hobby, say puzzles or chess, or your beloved collection, say stamps or baseball cards?

12 Ideas for Spare Bedrooms – Part 2

Tuscany Homes, a custom home builder working out of Vancouver WA, continues its list of 12 ideas for spare bedrooms. In this article, we look at ideas five through eight.

Woman meditatingTurn it into a recreation room. Set up a table for board games, and if you have an enough room, consider adding a pool, foosball, or air hockey table. A rec room can be a place where you and your guests can hang out and have fun.

Turn it into a bar. A bar can be a great place to sit back and relax, especially if you like wine, spirits, and/or beer. Instead of building a bar, you can always purchase a nice drink cart. Also, consider checking out eBay for a cool neon sign.

Turn it into an art studio or crafting room. This idea is ideal for spare bedrooms without carpet. It’s much easier to clean paint off hardwood.

Turn it into a yoga room or a meditation chamber. It’s strong recommended that if you go with this idea that your spare bedroom has a door. Namaste.

12 Ideas for Spare Bedrooms – Part 1

In this article, Tuscany Homes, a prominent custom home builder operating in Vancouver WA, begins a series on what to do with your spare bedroom. In this three-part series, we’ll look at 12 ideas for that extra room in your custom home that is currently unused.

Spare bedroomLeave it as a spare bedroom. Instead of spending time and energy to come up with something creative, you can always leave it as a spare bedroom. Look at it this way, if your old college buddy drops by and needs a place to stay, you’re all set.

Turn it into a library. It doesn’t take much to convert a spare bedroom into library. All you need are shelves, comfortable chairs, floor lamps, and books.

Turn it into a study. A study is like a library, but it includes a desk, art, and other objects you appreciate. Think of a library as a place where everyone can go and read. Think of a study as a place where you can go and hang out.

Turn it into a movie room. For your home theater, consider shelves for your Blu-ray discs, beanbags, and framed movie posters.

What to Expect After Moving into A Custom Home – Part 2

Tuscany Homes, a builder of high quality custom homes in Vancouver WA, wants you to know what to expect after moving into a custom home.

Moving In to custom home 002In part one, we discussed being flexible and projects. In part two, we’ll look at imperfections, not beating yourself up, and having to shop for furniture.

Imperfections. Your custom home is perfect for you but it may not be prefect. Don’t panic. Consider listing the touch-ups you think need to be done and then contacting Tuscany Homes (or the builder of your custom home).

Your custom home is big. It’s difficult to catch every little ding and loose screw during a walk through. Sometimes those things can only be found by living in the home.

You’ll want to beat yourself up. Your new custom home is pristine, but every nick, scratch, ding, and chip will be your fault (or the fault of your guests).

Give yourself a break when you break something in your new custom home. It’s bound to happen. It’s called living.

You’ll probably buy new furniture. Depending on where you are in your life, you might move into your new custom home with a bunch of furniture or very little furniture.

Either way, you’ll probably want to visit a furniture store, at least IKEA, and you’ll probably want to visit them frequently. It’s very likely that you’ll want (or need) new furniture for your custom home.

You will probably have projects. One of the best things about a custom home is everything is brand new. You probably won’t have to worry about a new roof, painting the exterior, or renovating your kitchen for a long time.

Selecting Paint Color For Your Custom Home’s Interior – Part 3

One of the decisions custom home builders in Vancouver WA will ask you to make is selecting the color of your home’s interior.

Interior Paint for custom homeIt’s a tough decision. That’s why Tuscany Homes has put together this three-part series on picking paint color for your custom home’s interior.

If you’re considering a color, experts recommend that you consult a color wheel. It sounds silly, but it can help you pick complementary, subtle, cool, and muted colors.

  • Colors opposite one another on the wheel are complementary and will play off one another.
  • Colors of the same shade will likely create a subtle and soothing atmosphere.
  • Cool colors, like blues, greens, and purples, will make small rooms look larger.
  • Colors like reds, yellows, and oranges, will make a room feel vibrant.
  • Warm colors have cool colors as complements.
  • Cool colors have warm colors as complements.

After you’ve narrowed your choices down to a few colors, buy samples of each from the same paint store your contractor is going to use.  It might be a little expensive, but it’s cheaper than having to re-paint the entire interior of your home.

It’s unlikely that you’ll be able to paint a part of the wall in the actual room, but you can paint a board and bring that board into the room to see how the color looks in the room’s natural lighting conditions.
